Injuries sustained following fall from a wheelchair
Our client attended hospital on 19 January 2007 for an assessment of her left hip. She had previously undergone total hip replacement in August 2006 but had had problems with the left hip thereafter. She was taken to the x-ray department in a wheelchair by a nurse and left alone outside the x-ray room. The nurse failed to apply the brake on the wheelchair and when our client stood up to reach a magazine, the wheelchair moved backwards and she fell sustaining soft tissue injuries to her front left side and to her back, hip, knee and face. Instructions to pursue a claim were received in May 2009 and after service of a formal Letter of Claim, the Trust admitted liability and the claim was settled within 12 months, our client receiving £4,250 in compensation.
