Tim joined Moore Blatch in 1999 to launch the Moore Blatch Clinical Negligence Department and has undertaken clinical negligence work for more than 20 years.

Tim undertakes complex claims involving death and serious neurological injury including injury arising out of obstetric mis-management.

Tim has lectured widely to health professionals on clinical negligence and clinical risk management and advises charities and other organisations with a particular medical interest.

After qualifying as a solicitor in the UK, Tim later practised as a Barrister and Solicitor in Canada. Returning to the UK, Tim further developed his clinical negligence expertise and between 1990 and 1999 led a team of lawyers investigating major clinical mishaps for the NHS. For eight years Tim was the Course Director for the UK’s first university accredited Diploma in Clinical Risk Management for healthcare professionals.

Tim was also a founding director and trustee of the Association of Litigation and Risk Management (ALARM), the professional body for Healthcare Managers specialising in clinical risk management.

Returning to Claimant practice in 1999, Tim’s particular interest is ensuring that lessons are learned from individual patient experience so that patient care is improved.

On a personal level Tim enjoys sailing and hill walking, and maintaining an elderly beach hut.

Victoria joined Moore Blatch in 1992 and has specialised in clinical negligence since 1994. She has a wealth of experience in medical claims and has successfully concluded a large number of clinical negligence cases ranging from those involving modest injuries to cases of catastrophic consequence.

Her detailed knowledge of medical procedure and legal process enables her to maintain a very strong track record in pursuing claims successfully. She is a highly skilled advocate and undertakes a wide range of advocacy work at Inquests, representing clients in front of both Juries and Coroners.

Victoria is also on the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and continues to undertake personal injury work. Victoria studied history at the University of Wales between 1981 and 1983 and then went on to study law at a postgraduate level in Birmingham.

She completed her articles at Lupton Fawcett Solicitors in Leeds and became a fully qualified solicitor in 1988. In her formative years as a solicitor she specialised in personal injury work, dealing principally with claims involving serious injury to members of the Transport & General Workers Union.

In 1990 she left private practice to travel the world and settled temporarily in Queensland, Australia where she became head of the personal injury department in a leading firm of Queensland Lawyers. She joined Moore Blatch on her return in 1992.

On a personal level Victoria is a keen and successful sailor, having won two National and one European titles in the Lark class. She has played badminton for Warwickshire County and has full coaching qualifications. She currently plays squash in the Hampshire League and enjoys all forms of sport.

Anne studied biochemistry and medicine at St Thomas’ Hospital, University of London and worked as a hospital doctor for two years after qualification. She moved to Manchester to study law before returning to London to complete her training at Bircham & Co in Westminster.

Anne was admitted as a solicitor in 1992 and has specialised in the resolution of clinical negligence claims since then. Between 1992 and 2003 her work involved advising the NHS on the defence and settlement of claims across the range of medical and surgical specialities, with an increasing emphasis on high-value cases involving the most serious of injuries. She was a partner at Capsticks in Putney, a leading firm for defendant clinical negligence work.

In 2004 Anne joined Moore Blatch (and her former Capsticks colleague Tim Spring) to help set up our office in Richmond-upon-Thames. She has very much enjoyed the transition to advising patients and their families. She has found it particularly helpful to be able to draw on her defendant and medical experience. Her job satisfaction comes from securing the best result with minimum further stress to her clients, who will already have had a difficult time before seeking legal advice. She hopes always to explain the relevant medical and legal issues clearly as they develop.

Outside work Anne enjoys cooking for friends, off-piste skiing, ballet and art.

Sarah joined Moore Blatch in 2005 and has more than ten years experience in clinical negligence and healthcare law. She has advised on some of the largest and most complex clinical negligence cases that the NHS has faced, including several cases with a national media profile.

She has a special interest in adult acquired brain injury cases and is an expert on the calculation of damages. Sarah has links with some of the country’s leading charities and is on the Headway and Spinal Injuries Association referral panels. She is a frequent speaker on medico-legal issues.

Sarah studied Law at the University of Leicester and completed her professional legal education at the College of Law in Chester. Her training contract was in Bristol where she dealt with union funded employer’s liability and industrial disease work. On her relocation to London, she worked for a national personal injury firm before specialising in clinical negligence at one of the leading healthcare practices in the country. After a short career break when she had her family, she joined Moore Blatch in 2005.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys cooking, learning about film history and is a Governor at a local primary school.

 

Denise Stephens

Denise joined Moore Blatch at the end of 2007 and brings more than 12 years’ solid clinical negligence claims experience with her, having handled numerous claims for patients across a wide spectrum.

She graduated in 1993 from Oxford Brookes University and went on to obtain a distinction at the College of Law in London.

Specialising in high value medical negligence cases and personal injury claims, Denise is a member of the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel and the Personal Injury Panel. She has also been accredited as a Senior Litigator by the Association of Personal Injury lawyers.

Unusually for a litigator, Denise has experience in acting as a Receiver/Deputy for clients with substantial compensation funds that require skilled management.

Passionate about fighting for the rights of injured patients, she is very client focussed, approachable and sympathetic, and gets to the centre of an issue quickly and with expertise. Denise has dealt with a number of highly complex cases and has trial experience in the High court.

She has given a number of radio and TV interviews on current legal topics and events, and has published a number of articles on legal issues.

On a personal level, Denise enjoys travelling and one of her great pleasures is experimenting with different recipes and trying them out on her friends. She also enjoys walking, theatre, art and has an eclectic taste in music from opera to Amy Winehouse.

Maya joined Moore Blatch in 2009 with a sound grounding in clinical negligence claims gained at a leading defendant firm.

After gaining a Law Degree in London, Maya worked as a paralegal in a professional indemnity practice before attending the College of Law in London in 1991.

Maya trained and qualified at Capsticks in London where she then worked for 6 years conducting and assisting on a wide range of clinical negligence claims both in terms of specialty and value.

After her stint in a defendant clinical negligence firm, Maya moved out of London. She had a family and worked in an NHS Primary Care Trust undertkaing legal work, investigating complaints and establishing and managing a Patient Advice And Liaison (PALS) team.

More recently, Maya has been lecturing the College of Law in Guildford, training the next generation of solicitors before returning to practice in a claimant firm.

On a personal level, Maya enjoys travel, cooking, running and singing in a 'Rock choir'.

Denise joined Moore Blatch in 2004 after a long career in nursing at a senior level.

Denise undertakes clinical negligence claims for patients and their families, and also provides the clinical negligence team with technical support and advice.

Having 14 years nursing experience, with 7 years as an Intensive Care Unit Sister and Senior Nurse, Denise has extensive practical experience and it is rare for her to encounter a medical condition she has not come across in clinical practice. She has also worked

within, and is conversant with, the clinical governance processes in the acute care sector.

Before deciding to persue a career in law, the culmination of her career as a healthcare professional was a period as an Intensive Care Research Manager at St. George's Teaching Hospital in London.

When not at work, Denise enjoys entertaining and Argentine Tango. She is currently learning Spanish.

Eleanor joined Moore Blatch when she qualified in 2008.

Eleanor specialises in claims involving clinical negligence, employer's liability, public liability and road traffic accidents. She runs her own case-load and assists her colleagues in the Richmond office with more complex claims.

Eleanor studied Business Studies and Law at Exeter University before completing her professional legal education at the College of Law in Guildford where she obtained a distinction. She trained at a Guildford firm for two years before joining Moore Blatch. Her training provided her with experience in all types of personal injury and clinical negligence claims, ranging from modest injuries to multi-million pound settlements.

In her spare time, Eleanor enjoys climbing, dancing, skiing and cooking for friends and family.

 

Brenda King

Brenda King

Brenda King has worked as a legal secretary and personal assistant for fifteen years. She joined Moore Blatch in 2000, returning to full time employment after having children, and provides expert technical support to the whole clinical negligence team.

In 2005 Brenda successfully completed her Institute of Legal Executives Paralegal Certificate Level II and has now commenced the Paralegal Diploma in Civil Litigation.

Brenda has particular empathy for clients involved in clinical negligence claims because she has been through one herself and appreciates and truly understands the strong emotions which are often involved.

When not working Brenda enjoys being with her children, swimming, going to the gym and clerking for school governors.

 

Brenda Whitby

Brenda Whitby

Brenda Whitby joined Moore Blatch in 2003 from Beachcroft Wansbroughs, a leading advisor to the NHS on the conduct of clinical negligence claims. She particularly enjoys being part of a team specialising in complex cases.

As well as having wide experience working with clinical negligence lawyers, Brenda has practical experience of hospital organisation, having worked as an Administrator at the Thames Valley Nuffield Hospital.

In her leisure time, Brenda enjoys visiting her holiday home in France and has recently taken up running.
